Sophie O’Callaghan

Sophie O’Callaghan is a member of RE-PEAT and the Communications Officer for The Rivers Trust. The Rivers Trust is a leading environmental charity which protects, promotes and enhances the freshwater and wetland ecosystems for both people and wildlife across Ireland, Northern Ireland and Great Britain.

Within RE-PEAT Sophie has worked on multiple projects exploring the place of art and storytelling peatland conservation.

Alongside RE-PEAT colleagues Ananya Jain and Isabel Sturges, Sophie is currently working on a European Challenge funded project called Books n’ Bogs where the stories and memories that people across Laois have of bogs will be recorded. The project will culminate in the audio clips being available as short podcasts and an anthology of the stories and quotes collected, available in English and Irish.

Sophie has previously worked on RE-PEAT projects like Moss Pit, an interactive exhibition highlighting the beauty and importance of moss through texture and an audio track inspired by moss and peatlands which multiple artists collaborated on. Other projects Sophie has worked on include the pre-production for independent documentaries and as a core member of the team behind the ‘Bog Standard’ documentary alongside working on RE-PEAT’s Peatland Justice campaign project raising the profile of Peat-Free compost and awareness of the relationship between peatlands, trade and finance. Sophie studied Applied Plant Biology at UCC.

In their free time Sophie enjoys reading, fly tying, and writing.
